Learning about Yorkshire Terriers can give you a great appreciation of this delightful small dog breed. This breed originated in Yorkshire, England, during the late 19th century. Ideally, its maximum weight is 7 pounds; however, it has been known to attain much larger sizes (usually in an unhealthy fashion). Generally speaking, however, this breed is a healthy and happy dog that is easy to train and is extremely loyal to its family.

One of the things that make terriers such a joy to own is their tiny size. These dogs weigh in at less than a pound and a half. They have a charming temperament; however, they can be aggressive if provoked. They are also very alert and have a strong desire to please their owners. Due to their small size, Yorkshire terriers should not be bathed very often, and they should only be washed inside the crate in a mild shampoo or with a mild soap.

Yorkshire terriers are brilliant and very responsive to their owners. They are also very energetic and can become destructive when they become bored. They should not be left alone for long periods of time, as this can lead to them becoming anxious and ignoring their owners. When bathing this dog, it is best to use a soft bristle brush and refrain from pulling hard on their coat as this can harm their skin.

While most terriers are obedient, there is one personality trait that is truly unique to this breed. These animals can become sullen and aloof, and many owners have reported having difficulty keeping their dogs under control. This can occur for several reasons; sometimes, it is due to the animal’s large size, and sometimes it stems from inadequate training. This type of dog should never be punished in any manner, even if it ultimately cannot achieve the level of obedience and training that its owner wants.

Yorkshire terriers should definitely be socialized during their formative years. This will help provide peace of mind to the owner since the animal will be much happier when around people and other animals. They should be house-broken frequently, and this can be accomplished by using a crate or a leash. If the dog has a solid temperament, it can be taught to walk on a leash while being trained. However, be sure to keep the dog on a short leash, so it does not try to shift to leading you!

Yorkshire terriers tend to suffer from several diseases, including anemia, diarrhea, skin conditions, heartworm disease, flatulence, and liver disease. All of these conditions should be taken care of promptly, so the dog will be healthy.
